Tracking Onboarding and Offboarding Access Tickets in Vanta: JIRA

Vanta collects the following information from task tracker tickets to satisfy the related Vanta tests: 

  • Title
  • Tags
  • Status 
  • Created at date
  • Closed at date
  • Access ticket target (see below)


  • Navigate to your Jira connection on the Integrations page and click on Manage, followed by Access ticketing labels

  • In the modal that pops up, enter all the labels that you would like Vanta to use to track access-related issues
  • After entering the labels you would like Vanta to track, select Save

  • Once complete, Vanta will pull in tickets with the Jira-configured label.

Mapping Tickets

When configuring the JIRA integration, you can define the labels you currently use for access ticketing. This allows flexibility if you already use a specific label for these tickets. JQL support will allow for more custom rules, like targeting tickets from specific projects.

Linking Access Tickets To Users

  • To power automated tests against access tickets, Vanta links the employee for which the access change is relevant based on the ticket’s title or description
  • To make use of this feature, ensure that access tickets have one of the following:
    • Employee’s email address anywhere in the ticket title
    • Employee’s email address anywhere in the ticket description using the following scheme: Access ticket for: EMAIL_ADDRESS

New Automated Tests

Once you enable import for the selected JIRA tickets, we will automatically run two new tests against them:

  • Ensure that offboarded users have an associated access ticket
  • Ensure that access tickets are resolved within the stated SLA

You can see the status of these tests on the Test page
