3 Quick Tips for Maintaining Security in a Public Space
Remote work has given us the capability to work from anywhere! Who doesn't love a productive workday at a local coffee shop? As we work remotely, it is essential to think about security and what we can do to protect our information. Here are five quick fixes for a good foundation for remote work security.
1. Use a VPN: A virtual private network will help you stay private online by creating a secure and encrypted connection between your device and the internet. Companies often have a VPN available for their employees to leverage when working out of the office, and there are options to also purchase a VPN for yourself. Be wary of free VPN services, and do your research when selecting the right VPN for your needs.
2. Hide your screen: Think about where your laptop is positioned in a public space and what people might be able to see if they sit next to you or walk behind you. Leveraging a privacy screen on your laptop is also a great way to limit what information is available visibly to those around you.
3. Lock screens and passwords: Ensure your device has a lock screen and is password protected. If someone else were to come in contact with your device, it would be harder for them to access information. Also, make sure never to leave your machine unattended!

Thanks for this (needed) reminder :) !
While VPN tends to be "forgotten" during travels or outside locations, the new 2022 revision of the ISO 27001 standard (available within Vanta, by the way 😎 !) will certainly brings back the matter in the foreground thanks to the new Annex A.8.5 ("Secure connection") ☝️.
This is a great call out, thanks for the share here Lucien Pinto!
