What do I do with the Vanta Agent when an employee leaves?
When an employee leaves, you might be wondering, "what should I do about their Vanta Agent?". When a computer is no longer being used by an employee and wont need to be tracked, there are a couple of ways to go about managing that.
The first recommendation would be to uninstall the Agent from the device entirely. Once uninstalled, this would remove the record from the Computers page entirely. If you were to re-issue the device, the new user should have no issues downloading and registering the Agent to their profile. I've included those steps below for Mac and Windows.
To uninstall the Vanta app on MacOS you can follow these steps:
1. Open Terminal (easiest way to find it is cmd+space bar "terminal")
2. Copy and paste the code below into the Terminal:
sudo /usr/local/vanta/vanta-cli uninstall
3. Vanta agent is uninstalled! 🎉
Mac uninstall
1. Open Terminal (easiest way to find it is cmd+space bar "terminal")
2. Copy and paste the code below into the Terminal:
sudo /usr/local/vanta/vanta-cli uninstall
Windows uninstall
Go to Apps & features, search for Vanta and click on the Uninstall button.
Delete the files in the Vanta folder from this location C:\ProgramData\Vanta.
The other option would be to remove the Agent record from appearing on the computers page by selecting the '...' next to a device and click "remove computer". This would remove the record from the computers page, however it would not remove the Agent from the device. If the device will be re-issued, this could cause registration issues if the Agent isn't uninstalled as well.
These are the two most common methods we've seen customers use, feel free to if you have other ways you've managed this!
