There may be instances where you need to turn off monitoring for a specific test. Deactivating a test turns off Vanta's automatic monitoring for it. You might do this if a test doesn't apply to your business or isn't required for your compliance program.
Viewing deactivated tests
To view all deactivated tests:
At the top of the Tests page, click the ••• menu.
Select View deactivated tests.
Open the test you want to view.
Click the deactivated status for more info.
Deactivating a test
Deactivating a test stops Vanta from automatically monitoring it and removes it from your failing tests list. Vanta won't alert you to potential misconfigurations for deactivated tests, so only deactivate tests you have adequate controls for or that don't apply to your company. Consult your audit firm before deactivating to confirm it aligns with your compliance obligations.
To deactivate a test:
Go to the Tests page.
Click the ••• menu next to the test you want to deactivate.
Select Deactivate.
Choose how long you'd like the test to be deactivated for:
Indefinitely
Until specified date
Enter a reason for deactivating the test.
This helps your team understand the context, but won't be visible to your auditor.
To share your reasoning with your auditor, add a comment to that test/evidence item in the audit portal (not on the regular Test page).
Upload evidence as needed.
Select Deactivate.
Reactivating a test
To reactivate a test:
At the top of the Tests page, click the ••• menu.
Select View deactivated tests.
Open the test you want to reactivate.
Click the Activate button.
⚠️ Note: Once you reactivate a test, the previous deactivation reason will no longer be visible.
