Step 1: Start the connection in Vanta
In Vanta, navigate to Integrations.
Search for Tenable.
Click View details, then select Connect.
Click the link to the Access Control Users page. This will open the Tenable portal.
Step 2: Create a service user in Tenable
Click create user
Enter Vanta Scanner as the user name.
Provide a username.
Set a password.
Assign the role Basic User.
Scroll down and ensure API Key and Username/Password authentication are enabled. Click Next.
Leave the default settings unchanged and click Next.
Click Save to create the user.
Return to Vanta, enter the newly created username, and click Next.
Step 3: Create a permission in Tenable
From the Create Permission page in Vanta, click the link to open the Access Control → Permissions page in Tenable.
In Tenable, click + Create Permission.
Enter Vanta Scanner as the permission name.
Select the Vanta Scanner user you created.
Select the All Users group.
Assign the Can View permission.
Select All Assets, then click Save.
Click Save again to confirm.
Return to Vanta and click Next.
Step 4: Generate an API Key
In Tenable, return to the Users table.
Right-click the Vanta Scanner user and select User Assist.
Click the API Keys page link in Vanta to navigate to the correct page in Tenable.
Click Generate, then select Continue.
Copy the generated Access Key and Secret Key.
Return to Vanta and paste the Access Key and Secret Key into the corresponding fields.
Click Done to complete the integration.
