Vanta sends notifications to help you and your team stay on top of issues and compliance tasks. Notifications can be customized to match personal preferences and team needs.

This article covers Email, Slack, and Microsoft Teams notifications.

  • Email requires no setup. Most email notifications are on by default By default, Vanta sends an email notification every Monday for tasks that remain incomplete. Employees added mid-week to Vanta will also receive their first task notification on the next scheduled Monday unless the default notification frequency is adjusted.

These emails will only ever come from [email protected] or [email protected] for customers hosted in the EU. You may need to allow this email address to send messages to your users if you have email filtering enabled. To adjust email notification frequencies, Vanta allows organizations to choose between weekly and daily notification schedules. These can be configured in the notification settings to suit organizational preferences.

Types of notifications

  • Alerts are triggered by specific events, such as a test that has recently changed to needing attention or a Vanta admin that was recently added to your account.

  • Immediate alerts are specific to a single type of issue and are usually time-sensitive—Vanta batches quick alerts on a 4-hour cadence to avoid over-notifying you.

  • Notification for Policy Tasks: Reminders for assigned policy tasks follow the configured schedule. For instance, if the notification schedule is set for Mondays, employees receive emails only on Mondays until all tasks are completed.

  • Notifications for Security Tasks Based on SLAs: Notifications for tasks like security training or policy acceptance are sent ahead of deadlines defined by SLAs. For example, if the SLA is 30 days, reminders start 30 days prior and can follow a daily or weekly schedule as per settings.

  • Digests (also known as Summaries) are sent regularly and include an overview of all issues and tasks across a category.

  • Digests are intended to give you a birds-eye view of your progress and what you need to work on. You can configure digest content on a per-category basis.

Notification Destinations

  • Account notifications, such as a Slack DM or private email, are sent privately. These are generally notifications that should only be viewed by one person, such as alerts on a test that is assigned.

    • Slack DMs use the user email address in Vanta. This means the emails in Vanta must match those in the Slack workspace to receive DMs.

    • Note that we currently do not support DMs via Microsoft Teams. Only Email and Slack will be available here.

  • Each Vanta user within your company configures their content and channel preferences on the Account notifications page.

  • Company notifications are sent to shared channels like Slack, Teams, or mailing lists. These are notifications that multiple people at your company may want to see, such as an overview of your engineering progress.

Scheduling Company Notifications

  • Notifications can be scheduled from the notification settings. Teams can choose between:

    • Anytime

    • Everyday between 9 am - 6 pm

    • Weekly (e.g., every Monday)

    • Daily (for more frequent task reminders)
