Reassign a Computer Owner on the People Page

If an employee receives a new device or their name isn’t listed as the computer’s current owner, you may need to reassign ownership in Vanta. This guide walks you through how to update the computer owner from the People page, ensuring your inventory stays accurate and aligned with your security requirements.

  • Navigate to the People Page.

  • Click on the employee in question to open their profile.

  • Navigate to the Computer tab.

  • Click on Monitored by.

  • Scroll down and click on Reassign owner.

  • Alternative method:

    • Access the inventory page in the Vanta console.

    • Locate the device, click the three dots, and assign it to the correct user.

    • For devices managed by MDM, also update the "enrolled by" section in MDM to reflect the new user.

  • Click on the drop-down menu and select the owner you would like to move that device to

  • Click Assign.

  • This device will now be removed from its current owner and belong to the one you have just chosen.

    • Please note: If the device shows alerts to install the agent even though it's already installed after reassignment:

    • Run the Vanta Agent Doctor command to diagnose issues

    • If the device doesn't appear in Vanta after reinstallation, contact Vanta support.
