Creating Custom Roles

Updated this week

✅ Feature availability: This article discusses Custom Role-Based Access Controls, which may require an upgrade or add-on. Refer to Vanta Plans and Pricing for details.

Depending on your plan, you can create custom roles from your settings. Custom roles let you bundle product area permissions for users who need access to specific parts of Vanta. They're built on the Collaborator role as a baseline, so users can still be assigned objects across the product.

⚙️ User permissions: Only Admins can manage custom roles.

Creating custom roles

To create a custom role, go to the Roles page and click Add role. For each custom role, you can enable as many or as few product areas as needed.

For each product area, choose the access level you’d like to grant for each permission set. Most permission sets allow the following access levels, unless otherwise noted:

  • No access

  • View only

  • View and edit
