If a document was uploaded to Vanta on one date but went into effect on another, you can adjust the Effective Date to reflect the correct timing. This helps ensure your audit evidence accurately matches your internal records.

You can also update the document itself at any time by creating a new draft and uploading the latest version. Here’s how to do both.

Update the Document with a New Draft

When you need to replace or update an uploaded document, start by creating a new draft.

  • Select the document from the Documents page

  • Select New draft

  • In the renewal window, choose how you want to upload your new evidence. You can:

    • Upload a file

    • Add URL

    • Import

    • Collect a screenshot

    • Or copy from the latest version to carry over prior uploads

  • Once added, you’ll be able to update metadata like the effective date before submitting.

Edit the Effective Date of an Existing Document

If the document content is correct but the effective date needs to be updated:

  • From the Documents page, select the document

  • Click the three dots () in the right corner of the evidence box

  • Choose Edit details

  • Adjust the Effective Date field as needed

  • Select Save
