Employees can ask security and compliance questions directly in Slack and receive quick, reliable answers sourced from your Customer Trust Management knowledge base. This makes it easier for teams to access accurate, company approved information without switching tools. It also helps security teams reduce repetitive requests and keep messaging consistent across the organization.
Please Note: This feature is available to customers on Questionnaire Automation, Questionnaire Automation Advanced, Plus, Growth, Scale, and Customer Trust Management packages.
How the Ask in Slack Feature Works
When an employee messages the Vanta Slack app, the app uses the organization’s CTM knowledge base to generate a response. Only the approved content in your knowledge base is used, which keeps answers aligned with your current policies and avoids exposing sensitive or NDA protected material.
The Vanta app can be added to any Slack channel or used in a direct message, making it easy for customer facing teams, support, and internal employees to ask questions in a familiar workflow while security teams maintain oversight and control of the underlying content.
Enable the Ask in Slack Feature
Install the Slack App
Navigate to the Integrations page in Vanta
Select Slack
Choose Connect
Approve the Slack workspace authorization
Once installed, the Vanta app will appear under Apps in Slack.
Turn on Ask in Slack
Open the Slack app settings in Vanta
Enable Allow employees to ask Vanta questions in Slack
Save your changes
Employees can now interact with the Vanta app in channels or direct messages.
Ask a Question in Slack
Employees can submit a question directly to the Vanta app.
Use the message composer
Open Slack
Go to a channel with the Vanta app or start a direct message
Type a question such as: What is our password policy
Send the message
Vanta replies with an answer pulled from your CTM knowledge base
This workflow mirrors the way teams naturally communicate in Slack and supports both customer facing needs and internal policy questions.
How Answers Are Generated
Responses are created only from approved content in your CTM knowledge base. This ensures that:
Answers follow your organization’s official language and policies
Sensitive or NDA protected information is not surfaced
Customer facing teams share consistent and accurate information
The Slack bot serves as an easy way to access approved content rather than an unrestricted search tool.
