How to validate the Vanta Agent is installed on your device

  • Updated

If you're unsure that the Vanta Agent is installed and running on your computer, here are a few ways that you can check to confirm!

Check your onboarding checklist

Navigating to https://app.vanta.com/onboarding will show that the Vanta Agent is downloaded and registered to your profile. You can see in the example below that the green checkmark is appearing:

MacOS Tool Bar

If you are on a Mac, the "V" icon in the toolbar will show that the Agent is installed and running

If you feel that the Agent is most likely downloaded but the 'V' icon is not showing, you can run the 'Doctor' command to verify if the Vanta Agent is installed.

Run the 'Doctor' command

The Vanta Agent has an inbuilt diagnostic tool called Doctor. This command will provide an output to confirm that the Agent is running, alongside additional diagnostic information.

A guide on how to run 'Doctor' for Mac, Windows & Linux can be viewed here: Vanta Agent Doctor Command

Once you run this command, the output should confirm whether the Agent is running successfully or not.

In the Vanta Dashboard

An admin on the account can view the Computers Page to check if a device is being monitored by the Vanta agent and when the last time it synced to Vanta

Ideally the Vanta agent should be checking in at least once every 24 hours (if the device has been on and connected to the internet). If the Agent has not synced in the last 24 hours, follow this guide to force reset the Agent: How to fix a device not checking in
